Sonic's first Wii escapade was a fast-paced platformer in which you control Sonic as he goes through various worlds inspired by the One-Thousand and Nights. You know, like a dinosaur infested forests, the middle of a storm out at sea, the king's castle,- wait what? Yes, apparently Sega's Sonic and the Secret Rings features dinosaurs. Remember those from the book? I sure don't.
Inaccuracies aside SatSR was a pretty solid platformer. The control scheme was a little iffy, and the game feels artificially extended by having you play the same levels over and over again but with different objectives; but overall a good game. Sure there are some parts which are frustrating, to say the least, but I overall enjoyed it.
That's not to say I didn't have problems with it. As previously mentioned the game forces you to make it through the same levels, with minute differences, such as "get there before the floating ball of light does" and "kill all enemies while getting there". This doesn't change much as in the end it all bogs down to waggling the "Wii-mote" at certain times. Also there are some parts were the "on-rails" camera works against you and you can't see were the next dash pad is to outrun the stampede of dinosaurs. Also, the space Sonic can move isn't defined by the graphics; it's less, making you think you can dodge an enemy but it turns out it's next to the boundaries of movement even though it's nowhere near the wall.
Anyways, my point is that, while enjoyable, this game feels lacking; and with no real incentive to pass it, it'll most likely sit in a corner collecting dust. And that's my veredict.
